Have you ever considered washing your garage doors? It’s critical to keep them clean, so you can keep them around longer. And not just the outside surfaces, keeping the tracks free of dirt and grime will reduce the chances of rust or even debris throwing it off track. And as we use our garage doors more and more as the primary point of entrance into our homes it’s important that they work they way they should.
Cleaning your garage door doesn’t take a lot of time and you can use the same cleaning products you use in the rest of your home. Using an old towel or shop rag wipe the tracks on both sides. If you do find rust use sandpaper or steel wool to remove it. Add a few drops of dishwashing detergent (Dawn is good to remove oil and grease) to a pail of water and scrub the surfaces inside and out with a brush. Rinse with clean water and dry with a paper towel.
Next apply the appropriate lubricant to the moving parts of your garage door. This includes the tracks, axles, hinges and roller wheel bearings. Wipe away the excess and then run your garage door up and down to spread the lubricant. You may be amazed at how much quieter your door has become.
It’s a good idea to clean and examine your garage doors twice a year. Cleaning will give you a good opportunity to check the parts for possible replacement. Proper replacement of damaged or worn parts means your garage door will be safer and last longer. Call Raynor Garage Doors of KC for a garage door inspection or repair.
